New vehicle registrations in Romania in January 2026 are down by 33% year-on-year, according to preliminary information from data published by the General Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registrations (DGPCI) and processed by specialists of the Association of Romania's Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

In the brand ranking, Dacia leads, with 1,442units, followed by Toyota (756), Skoda (690), Volkswagen (646) and Mercedes-Benz (397).

In terms of makes, the Dacia Duster is in first place, with 648 units sold, followed by the Skoda Octavia (304), Dacia Logan (279), Toyota Yaris CRC (262) and Toyota Corolla (254).

Also, electric vehicles declined 13% year-on-year to 5,615 units.

Pure electric vehicles also saw a decrease of 14% from January 2025, while the registrations of plug-in hybrid vehicles advanced 49%.

APIA is a non-profit organisation, a representative entity in the automotive industry in Romania, established in 1994, a member of the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) since 1996.
