According to a press statement released by the Interior Ministry (MAI), Dan took part in a meeting in Luxembourg, October 11-12, of the Council of Justice and Home Affairs (JHA).
At the home affairs meeting, important files on the European agenda were addressed, such as: a proposal for a regulation amending the European Border and Coast Guard Regulation; a proposal for a Return Directive; sectoral regulations under the Multiannual Financial Framework that affect home affairs, as well as the reform of the Common European Asylum System and relocation.
The interior ministers discussed migration, with emphasis on the current situation and the way forward, at a working luncheon.
The RAN discussions brought together high-level officials and front-line practitioners from member states as well as representatives of the European Commission to discuss ways to effectively address the challenges of radicalisation that lead to violent extremism and terrorism.
"Romania does not face a direct and imminent threat of violent extremism and terrorism, but it is concerned about the extent of this phenomenon in recent years. In our opinion, the development of the preventive side is necessary both at present, and in the years ahead," said Carmen Dan.
Prior to the JHA council meeting of October 10, Dan had an important meeting in Brussels to complete preparations for Romania assuming the presidency of the EU Council with Christine Roger, Director-General for Home Affairs with the General Secretariat of the EU Council.
IntMin Dan: 'Romania to deal with radicalisation when holding the presidency of the EU Council'
As a state that will assume the presidency of the EU Council for the next European Semester, Romania will pay attention to radicalisation, with emphasis on online radicalisation, in order to identify good practices for its management, Romania's Interior Minister Carmen Dan told a high level conference of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN).
