IMM Romania (the National Council of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in Romania) President Florin Jianu called on the Prime Minister to urgently convene the National Tripartite Council and to request a temporary state aid framework at European level, warning that rising fuel prices are affecting the entire business environment and could spark social tensions.
"The Government support measures are essential for the business environment, and on this point I am raising a few requests to prevent potential social unrest in the coming period. We have previously seen farmers and transport operators take to the streets. Other social groups could also be affected by these fuel price increases. In fact, the impact is felt across the entire business sector and by all citizens. In order to prevent these social tensions, our main request is that the Prime Minister urgently convenes a National Tripartite Council to discuss the solutions proposed by the business community," Florin Jianu told a news conference.
According to him, Romania's Government must request a temporary state aid framework at European level, "similar to what was implemented during the COVID-19 period and at the start of the conflict in Ukraine."
He also pointed out that other European countries have already took action in order to support and protect their own economies.
