Four Romanian boxers to fight for gold at European Under-17 Boxing Championships

Romanian boxers Birham-Pasa Iuseim (44-46 kg), Denis-Aurel Alexandrescu (50 kg), Florin-Nelu Ulmeanu (63 kg) and Andreea-Timeea Tapu (75 kg) qualified for the finals of the European Under-17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany.

Birham-Pasa Iuseim defeated Ireland's Pat Stokes on points (5-0) in the 44-46 kg semi-finals and will face Azerbaijan's Gardas Rahimov in the final on 17 December.

In the 50 kg category, Denis-Aurel Alexandrescu won on points (5-0) against Turkish boxer Berat Akduman and will box Ireland's Kristian Jubani in the final on 17 December.

Florin-Nelu Ulmeanu prevailed on points (5-0) against Greece's Ermis Diinekis Ziogas in the 63 kg semi-finals and will meet Hungary's Istvan Cziffra in the final on 17 December.

In the women's competition, Andreea-Timeea Tapu won on points (4-1) in the 75 kg semi-final against Croatia's Lana Skupnjak and will face Ukraine's Vasilina Olasiuk in the final.

Two other Romanians finished with bronze medals after losing their semi-final bouts.

In the 48 kg category, Ionut Madalin Calugar lost on points in the penultimate round to England's William Saunders (1-4), while in the 54 kg category Raian-Nicholas Cola was defeated by technical knockout in the second round by Turkish Muhammet Ali Arli.

Romania took part with 24 athletes, 12 men and 12 women, at the Under-17 European Junior Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany, with the objective of winning one or two medals and achieving one or two fifth-place finishes.
