The Federation of Romanian Transport Operators (FORT) proposes a set of measures to balance fuel prices and support the competitiveness of transporters, including capping commercial markups on the distribution chain and, under conditions of high volatility, capping the final price at the pump.
According to a press release from IMM Romania, FORT proposes eliminating turnover tax for companies that sell fuel.
"This measure would reduce the fiscal pressure in the distribution chain and would allow for the rapid reflection of cost decreases in the final price at the pump," the press release reads.
At the same time, the organization proposes capping the commercial markup, differentiated for each link in the chain (producer - distributor - final trader).
"Such an intervention would ensure transparency and fairness in price formation, preventing the excessive accumulation of successive commercial margins," the organization's representatives note.
According to the cited source, a last resort solution is to cap the final price at the pump.
"Under conditions of heightened volatility or market dysfunction, this measure can protect the economy and consumers from unjustified increases," the document also reads.
FORT emphasizes that these proposals aim to balance the market, not distort it, and are essential for maintaining the competitiveness of Romanian operators in a sector strongly influenced by the cost of fuel.
