The Minister of Internal Affairs, Catalin Predoiu, had a working videoconference on Thursday with his Luxembourg counterpart, Leon Gloden, the meeting being dedicated to strengthening cooperation in combating crime and developing common security mechanisms.

According to a release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs sent to AGERPRES, at the beginning of the meeting, Predoiu mentioned the priority given to combating organized crime in all its forms and the full use of all existing working instruments, both at bilateral and European level.

The discussions focused on the main current challenges in the field of cross-border crime, as well as on the need to intensify the exchange of information and operational cooperation between the competent institutions of the two states.

The Luxembourg Minister of Internal Affairs highlighted the similar approach of the two states in relation to the objectives of combating cross-border crime. In the context of the increased responsibilities of law enforcement authorities to ensure public order and safety for their own citizens, he expressed his full openness for a strengthened cooperation, both bilaterally and at EU level, the cited source informs.

The interlocutors stressed the importance of a coordinated and proactive approach, based on constant dialogue and the efficient use of available instruments. The essential role of bilateral cooperation and an adequate exchange of information in preventing and combating threats to public security was highlighted.

At the same time, Catalin Predoiu highlighted the existing challenges to internal security and the need for states to adopt a proactive approach, by developing institutional capacities. In this context, he considered that topics such as countering hybrid threats, combating disinformation and ensuring cyber security, as well as civil protection, are gaining increased relevance, with the partners interested in developing bilateral cooperation.

In addition, law enforcement agencies are required to integrate state-of-the-art technologies into their activities, with Luxembourg being an example to follow in this regard. The Romanian minister mentioned the existing interest in exchanging experiences and good practices in this regard, with the know-how of the Luxembourg authorities being extremely relevant.

In conclusion, the two ministers of the relevant departments assessed the exchange of views as positive and agreed to maintain an active and pragmatic dialogue on topics of common interest in the field, the press release also states.
