A monument dedicated to Nicolae Titulescu on Thursday was inaugurated on the Ataturk Avenue in Ankara during a ceremony attended by the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodor Melescanu, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Faruk Kaymakci, the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Turkey informs in a press release.

The "Nicolae Titulescu" monument was made by Turkish artist Sultan Burcu Demir from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Hacetteppe University, with the support of the Ankara General City Hall.

Attending the ceremony were also the rector of the Hacetteppe University, Haluk Ozen, the Deputy Mayor of Ankara, Ramazan Kabasakal, as well as numerous ambassadors and other representatives of the political, diplomatic, business, cultural, academic environments and of the Romanian community in the Ankara Metropolitan area.

Nicolae Titulescu (1882-1941) was an exceptional Romanian diplomat, jurist, professor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania (1927-1928; 1932-1936) and the only President of the General Assembly of the League of Nations who was elected for two consecutive terms in office (1930, 1931).

The event took place under the aegis of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union exercised by Romania over January - June 2019, specified the embassy in the release.
