Overall crime nationwide dropped by 11% in 2025 compared with 2024, placing it below the average of the past ten years, Interior Minister Catalin Predoiu announced during the presentation of the Ministry of the Interior's activity report for 2025, potrivit Agerpres.
According to the minister, the institutions under the Interior Ministry (MAI) intensified their actions against organized crime, with a strong focus on combating drug trafficking.
"We strengthened the fight against organized crime, especially in the area of drug trafficking. Large-scale operations were carried out in key operational environments, and numerous criminal groups were dismantled. High-risk drug seizures in 2025 were more than six times higher than in previous years, and risk-category drug seizures were double compared to the previous year," Minister Predoiu said, according to an MAI statement.
The evaluation meeting for the Ministry's 2025 activity took place on Friday at the Ministry's headquarters and brought together the Ministry's leadership and the heads of subordinate structures.
The meeting reviewed results in public order and safety, emergency management, and community public services. The main directions of action and institutional priorities for 2026 were also set, with the aim of increasing operational efficiency and strengthening citizens' safety.
"For 2026, what I expect from you is simple: act professional, be patriots, and be colleagues to one another. We are entering a world undergoing profound change, where adaptability is key," Predoiu advised.
